Notorious N8 road claims five lives
The national road that links South Africa and Lesotho in the Free State, N8, claimed five lives leaving one critical on Saturday afternoon.
According to the report, five lives were lost when the driver of a bakkie lost control after a tyre burst and a sixth person succumbed injuries in hospital shortly thereafter.
About two months ago, the notirius road claimed family of six after a horror crash of two cars.
Most of the accidents happens in the Mangaung Metro between Bloemfontein via Botshabelo to Thaba Nchu.
Mangaung Metro Mayor Olly Mlamleli said, “I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident that took place on the N8.
I would like to urge drivers who use N8 to be extra cautious because this is one road that is claiming many lives.”
She said it’s not so long ago that she took it upon herself to in calling for prayers and cleansing rituals in a quest to end the ongoing carnage on this road.
“Our observation as Mangaung Metro is that most accidents are by drivers who exceed the speed limit.
I am making humble appeal that drivers should avoid high speed and be patient,” said Mlamleli.
